I have been keeping a journal for years because I LOVE to write. I mainly used it to moan about life, situations and just to remember memories and conversations. As some of you may know, I have been investing in my own personal growth over the last few years after a bad breakup, home change and a midlife crisis. In the last 18 months, I have been learning all sorts of things. But the one thing that I have loved learning about is mindset journaling.
5 Questions To Write About In Your Journal To Uplevel
Mindset journaling is a tool you can use to train your subconscious mind into believing anything you want it to believe.
I know that sounds like a bit of a mind fuck but here’s the basics.
Your mind has two sides; the conscious side and the subconscious side. You create thoughts, make decisions and perform daily functions with the conscious mind and it orders your subconscious mind to act in a specific way.
This is why many people believe that your conscious side of the brain runs the show. But in reality, it’s your subconscious mind that is the real player. Your true and special power lies deep in your subconscious mind.
Your conscious mind takes care of all the visible and rational thoughts, behaviours and activities. But on the flip side, your subconscious mind is in charge of storing all your memories, including past feelings, emotions, and thoughts. Each thought that you have ever created, is stored in the subconscious part of your mind and it pops back into your conscious mind whenever something similar occurs.
Think of your subconscious mind like an unlimited genie lamp, like in Aladdin. It has the ability to influence your decisions and actions, but you need to be wise in using it. If you guide it in a positive direction, then it will lead you down the road of good vibes. It works the same way with negativity too. Guide your thoughts down the dark alley of negativity and you’re in for a shitty time. This is all because your subconscious mind has the power to become anything you think and feel in the exact way you tell it.
So basically – whatever you think constantly, eventually becomes because your reality attracts your thoughts and feelings.
If you think that you’re not good at anything and you have no idea what you’re doing – I guarantee you that you feel unsuccessful and unworthy. This could mean that you are currently financially unstable, trapped in a job you hate or not feeling great with your self image.
If you start to think that you are an expert in what you do, that you are worth that pay rise and think that you can do whatever you set your mind to, then feelings of confidence, love and worthiness start attracting to you. Things start to go right for you and you start achieving the goals you set out to achieve.
When you practise controlling your thoughts, you can program it any way you want. It’s your authenticity that is your special power and that is what guides you to doing the most amazing things that you never thought you could do!
There’s no correct way of doing this but your journal will predominately be used to induce positive affirmations into your mind. The following questions or prompts are what I journal about regularly in order to strengthen and transform my subconscious mind.
It’s super important to keep yourself grounded and present. This helps with gratitude and growth as you are showing yourself and the Universe that you are able to make the most of your life and accept it for what it is now. Regardless of what’s going on in your life, this particular task will help you focus on the Let yourself be free and embrace any emotions that you are feeling. If you are feeling particularly negative, explore those feelings in depth and see what you can break down, expose and change.
Things like, “I’m not ready” or “No-one is going to listen to me” are all limiting beliefs. There is ZERO shame in admitting that you can’t handle a task you have set yourself or that you need help. Use your conscious mind to identify all the things holding you back. Once you have identified them, you can work out a plan to get round them and find a solution.
This is where transforming your subconscious really begins.
You’ve already identified all the things that are holding you back or you are struggling with. Go through each limiting belief and write a new empowering belief. This will tell your subconscious mind that you ARE good enough and you are the person you want to be. The subconscious mind doesn’t know the concept of lying it only believes what it is told. For example, if you feed your subconscious and tell it “My words are gold and people are inspired by what I have to say” instead of telling yourself that no-one is going to listen, your actions will start to mimic an inspirational Oprah hybrid! Thoughts become actions!
Gratitude is probably the most vital part of pretty much everything – manifesting, law of attraction, self love and overall happiness. It all comes from being grateful for what you have right now. Everyday, I write a love list that contains a MINIMUM of 30 things I’m grateful for. 30 sound like a lot? Did you wake up in a bed this morning? Did you have breakfast this morning? Going to work or driving a car today? These are all things that we should be grateful for DAILY despite them being small to us, these are things that many people don’t have. Show love to these things and see your life transform. >> Click here for 5 quick ways to show gratitude daily <<
This is a hard one because it is so easy to carry the burden of hurt especially if you have been abused, betrayed or lied to. However, in order to strengthen your mind and start creating the life you really want to create, you need to let go and forgive. Once a week, I do a forgiveness list. I write down exactly what happened, how it made me feel at the time, how I feel about it now and then I declare to forgive that person (or myself) and attempt to let it go. A good technique is ho’oponopono, an ancient Hawaiian forgiveness technique which uses the mantra; ‘I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you’. I write this after every item I’ve listed and then read it aloud after. It is incredibly empowering! Read more about ho’oponopono
