It’s a new year which means it’s time to get our lives together. More importantly, it’s time to learn from your mistakes, reflect on 2018 and live your best year yet. I always end up spending the first few weeks of a new year reflecting on the old one – what was great, what went wrong, how I felt, what advice I’ve gained and what I have learnt.
The one lesson I learnt in 2018, is that life is way too short to hold back. Be open about your feelings, put yourself first and be free! Don’t worry what others think and show off what you are proud of. Chances are, your friends and family will think what you’re doing is amazing!
I caught up with a range of blogging and influencer babes and asked them what they had learnt in 2018 and what piece of advice they would give others in 2019.
Here’s Our Advice From 2018…
This year has taught me a lot about relationships. If someone is treating you like crap, get out. I’ve seen friends stay with someone because they don’t want to be alone. I’ve seen people go back to someone who’s cheated because they think they’ll change. People don’t change and you should want to be alone than be with someone who is bringing you down. When someone shows you who they are, believe them! You deserve so much better so put yourself first! Never ignore your gut instinct either. If you feel bad vibes about a situation it’s normally not right.

Stop being so scared. Don’t let fear take control of your life; the fears of quitting your job, pursuing a relationship, or anything that prevents you from happiness. In the end, you’ll end up regretting what you didn’t do. For instance, I went bungee jumping, and I was so scared but once I took the jump, I just thought, what was I afraid of? Don’t be afraid to speak up about your feelings and make changes to your life.

I’ve had an amazing 2018, but if I’ve learnt anything, it’s that everything can change in a year! 2018 for me has been a massive year & I’ll be leaving it as a totally different person to how I entered. I’m now married, and a mum!

I want everyone to be kind to themselves this year. 2018’s most important lesson has been how much negative self-talk affects my mental health, as I really struggled with postpartum depression this year. Take 2019 as it comes and remembers that you’re good enough.

One piece of advice that I’d give is ‘If you never try, you’ll never know’ – this is something I’ve always lived by. When I’m stuck in a limbo of whether I will succeed in something, I always tell myself, “give it a go, you’ll never know what might turn up!”
Listen to your heart. This year, I’ve been travelling and I have realised how important it is to just do what makes you happy. If your heart is telling you to get out of a certain situation, then do it. If you are yearning for something more, then allow it. You deserve more than you are giving yourself.

To understand the true meaning of friendship and value what you have, not what you think everyone else has. I think social media distorts the way people think about relationships of any kind. Don’t worry that someone else seems to have 100s or 1000s of friends. You need to focus on and value the ones you really have. If you have one or two very good friends, then you are truly blessed.

Believe in yourself! Even if no one else seems to or they think you have crazy ideas, so long as you believe in yourself then that’s all that matters. The power of the mind is very strong and if you are positive and full of self-belief then good things will happen. If you are constantly full of doubt and negativity then you will surround yourself with this. Learn to forgive, but also learn to let go of toxic people and negative people. Life is too short to not follow your dreams and surround yourself with people who believe in them too.

I learnt this year that you have to go for what you want and it’ll never feel like hard work. Starting a blog was so scary because I didn’t know if anyone would read it or care about my stories but I’ve been so blessed with all the support I’ve received so far! So go for it, whether it’s a new job, a new place to live or starting your own blog!
